Fox, professor of political science at Loyola Marymount, Lawless, professor of government and director of the Women and Politics Institute at American University, explores the growing alienation of young people from politics. Drawing on extensive interviews and surveys of more than 4,000 college and high school students, the book profiles a generation that distrusts politicians yet cares about changing the world; Lawless proposes ways to direct those aspirations into some of the 500,000 elected offices that may otherwise go begging.
