I began reading Evicted thinking I had a decent idea of how poverty and eviction worked, I had no idea. This book taught me so much about the intricacies and challenges that daily face the lives of some of our nation's poorest. Matthew Desmond gives us a glimpse into the lives of several families in Milwaukee. You'll find yourself cycling through a range of emotions reading this book, from anger to hope and sympathy and in the end you'll walk away with a greater understanding of how this kind of poverty affects us all.

Consequence is one of the most brutally honest books I've ever read. Eric Fair takes us on a journey as he's hired by civilian contractors, then working first as a translator then an interrogator, most notably at Abu Ghraib and Camp Victory. He lays it all out on the line and shows us his ambitions, his nightmares, his family and friends and, particularly painfully, the things he experiences behind closed doors with other humans labeled "enemy". A rough book, but one that everyone should read.

Black Flags is an incredible look inside the history of ISIS, how it got it's origins and how it grew into the force we know it as today. It uncovers how some mishandling of the conflicts from the past decade and a half gave the group it's boost and shows how, once it got going it proved near impossible to halt. If you want a book to better understand this current threat, this book will not disappoint.
