Milk Street: Tuesday Nights Mediterranean, by Christopher Kimball

I love cooking, but sometimes a long day slinging books means I don't have the time, patience, or energy to make something labor-intensive. Enter Christopher Kimball's new cookbook, featuring my favorite flavors and a robust selection of vegetarian meals to satisfy and delight. I've really enjoyed making the green shakshuka, the asparagus pasta, and the ricotta pesto, and have already bookmarked a lot of other recipes to try. This book is very accessible for beginner chefs, but the flavors are so exciting and advanced that no one will know it took you 30 minutes to make.

The Style of Movement by Ken Browar and Deborah Ory

An extremely underrated aspect of dance performance is the costuming. Placing a dancer in loose, flowing robes as opposed to tights and a dance belt changes the quality of movement, power, and feeling of a piece. Ken Browar and Deborah Ory of NYC Dance Project have a new book, The Style of Movement (Rizzoli,
$75), which combines their groundbreaking dance photography with costume designs from some of the most important names in fashion today, including Dior, Oscar de la Renta, and Valentino (who also wrote the introduction to the book). In an interview, the authors said, “No one can move, or bring life to an item of clothing quite like a dancer. Even when you see a child put on a dress—they twirl in circles to see how it moves with them.” By working directly with the dancers to capture their own unique styles (both fashion and movement), Browar and Ory capture the spirits and authentic joy of the dancers, as well demonstrating that fashion is not a static art form but rather one as dynamic and vital as the dancers who bring them to life.

The Western Wind by Samantha Harvey

The year is 1491. A man is dead in the village of Oakham. A man who owned two-thirds of the town. A man who found God in a lute. A man who fell into a river. Was it a murder, accident, suicide? The only person who knows the truth is Father John Reve, the local priest, who takes us on a backwards journey through Shrovetide, starting with the discovery of the body and ending with a promise. In The Western Wind (Grove, $26), author Samantha Harvey calls on us to question where the spirit of a town lies, and how far will people go to protect it. Part murder mystery and part historical fiction, this book is a perfect gift for those who love a slow-burn novel with strong character-building and prose that keeps you turning pages to learn the next confession.
