Unfortunately, her odiously polite neighbor Fleischman has cornered the market on doing odd jobs for the adults they know. When her three charges—Brutus the enormous bulldog, Pookie the pampered fuzzball, and Cornelia the vain hot-dog dog—prove to be more trouble than she expected, Lulu finds that she may have to take the ever-present Fleischman’s advice after all. Viorst once again succeeds in making the obnoxious Lulu both funny and likable, and Lane Smith’s illustrations will make you laugh out loud. Ages 5-8. JLM
