Gender Queer, by Maia Kobabe
In grad school Kobabe was asked to write something “about herself.” She never completed that project. Instead eir* reckoning with who e* is turned into this engaging and enlightening memoir about identifying as non-binary and asexual. Kobabe takes us from a Northern California hippie upbringing to dealing with the frustrations of puberty and social constructs that insist on “acceptable” ways of dressing and behaving. The journey to self-actualization is rendered with charming illustrations and whip-smart insight.
*Kobabe uses genderless “e/ey/eir” pronouns.
