The Feud: Vladimir Nabokov, Edmund Wilson, and the End of a Beautiful Friendship - Alex Beam

Staff Pick

Edmund Wilson and Vladimir Nabokov were great friends, whose mutual delight in Russian and English prosody seemed to know no bounds. Then Nabokov translated Pushkin’s Eugene Onegin and they became arch enemies. The vitriol! The ego! The linguistic barbs! It would all be insufferable if it wasn’t so terribly funny. Alex Beam’s scholarship and knowledge of Russian is superbly complemented here by his delicate touch, making this the best kind of guilty pleasure for serious readers.
