Joni Mitchell, ARCHIVES VOL. 2: The Reprise Years (1968 – 1971) (Rhino, 5 CDs, 65.98) – Joni Mitchell’s second volume of archival material covers her breakthrough years with the albums Song To A Seagull (1968), Clouds (1969), Ladies Of The Canyon (1970), and Blue (1971). The box set features five albums of demos, alternate takes, and full concerts, including live at Carnegie Hall, in February, 1969, and the famous BBC concert in London with James Taylor, in October, 1970.

RELIEF: A Benefit for the Jazz Foundation of America’s Musicians’ Emergency Fund (Mack Ave, $18.98) – An all-star benefit compilation of previously unreleased music by Jon Batiste, Christian McBride, Cécile McLorin Salvant, Esperanza Spalding & Leo Genovese, Kenny Garrett, Hiromi, Joshua Redman’s “Still Dreaming” Quartet, Charles Lloyd & Kindred Spirits. As a bonus, there is a historic live performance of “Gingerbread Boy” featuring Herbie Hancock, Jimmy and Tootie Heath, Wallace Roney, and Buster Williams. 

The Cookers, LOOK OUT! (Gearbox, $14.98) – The all-star group—Billy Harper and Donald Harrison on saxophones, Eddie Henderson and David Weiss on trumpets, George Cables on piano, Cecil McBee on bass, and Billy Hart on drums—team up again for their sixth release. All of the Cookers are leaders and veterans of some of the most iconic groups of the last 50 years. Enjoy!
