Mary Halvorson is among the most original electric guitarist of the last dozen years, and she is releasing two larger-scale projects at the same time. 

Mary Halvorson, BELLADONNA (Nonesuch, $14.98) – Features five compositions for electric guitar and the Mivos String Quartet 

Mary Halvorson, AMARYLLIS (Nonesuch, $14.98) – This is a six-song suite for a new sextet: Halvorson;  Patricia Brennan, vibes; Jacob Garcchik, trombone; Adam O’Farrill, trumpet; Nick Dunston, bass; Tomas Fujiwara, drums.The Mivos Quartet joins for three of the songs 




John Scofield, SOLO (ECM, $18.98) – Playing solo guitar (plus overdubs and loops), Scofield weaves in five originals, tunes by  Keith Jarrett, Hank Williams, Buddy Holly, the New Orleans standard, “Junco Partner,” and three standards from the American Songbook. 

 Black Keys, DROPOUT BOOGIE (Nonesuch, 14.98) – Guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney jam on a new set of originals, with guests. 




Lyle Lovett, 12th OF JUNE (Verve, $14.98) – After 12 years, Lyle Lovett and his Large Band are back…with originals, as well as standards like “Cookin’ at the Continental,” “Peel Me a Grape,” and “Straighten Up and Fly Right.” 

NOTE: Lyle Lovett and his Large Band will be at Wolf Trap on Saturday, August 6 


Florence + the Machine, DANCE FEVER (Republic, $16.98) 

NOTE: Florence + the Machine will be at Capital One Arena on Monday, September 12 




Chet Baker Trio, LIVE IN PARIS: THE RADIO FRANCE RECORDINGS 1983 – 1984 (Anagram, 2 CDs, $30.98) – Chet Baker’s drummerless trios in two previously unissued live performances recorded by Radio France. The performances feature Baker on trumpet and vocals, pianist Michel Graillier, and bassists Dominique Lemerle (July 17, 1983) and Riccardo Del Fra (February 7, 1984). 

As usual with Resonance/Anagram releases, there are revelatory booklet notes: essays by journalist and author Ashley Kahn, journalist Franck BergerotPascal Rozat of INA France, and interviews with Baker sidemen Riccardo Del FraDominique Lemerle, and Richie Beirach
