A Holiday Outing to Longwood Gardens

Saturday, December 16, 10 a.m. – approximately 10 p.m.

Get in to a festive spirit with Politics and Prose at Longwood Gardens, the famed botanical garden, which transforms into a winter wonderland, decked with half a million lights and complete with carolers, seasonal  floral displays, and fountains, aglow with lights, rising and falling in tune to holiday music.

Longwood Gardens, a premier horticultural display garden, boasts over a thousand acres of artfully designed indoor and outdoor gardens, meadows, and woodlands. We’ll start with an hour-long guided tour of the grounds, exploring the Gardens’ history and highlights. After, roam and explore the grounds at your leisure. Stroll through the Conservatory, home to 20 indoor gardens, brimming with a dizzying array of flowers and scents; delight in the sights and sounds of a fountain soaring high into the air to music; marvel at the fanciful shapes and lush greenery of the topiary garden; or take a stroll through Longwood’s scenic meadows. Longwood also offers two dining options with fresh, seasonal fare grown in its gardens.

Transportation to Longwood Gardens will be provided; we’ll meet at Politics and Prose at 9:30 a.m., and depart at 10 a.m. As the holiday lights are best enjoyed in the evening as daylight diminishes, travelers should plan on getting back to the bookstore just before it closes, at 10 p.m. The trip will take place rain or shine, and involves several hours of walking indoors and outdoors. We recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes and bringing sunscreen.
