Zahra Hankir - Our Women on the Ground: Essays by Arab Women Reporting from the Arab World — in conversation with Hannah Allam — at Politics and Prose at Union Market

Upcoming Event
Tuesday, August 6, 2019 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

In this groundbreaking essay collection, Hankir, a widely published Lebanese-British journalist, presents essays by nineteen of today’s most accomplished Arab and Middle Eastern women journalists. Outspoken and brave, these writers recount their experiences covering stories ranging from the Iraq war to the Syrian refugee crisis. By turns chilling, ironic, and wrenching, the stories include the special challenges they faced as women—such as the difficulty of traveling without a male relative in Yemen and the constant threat of sexual harassment—as well as the unique advantages of being able to speak to women at a medical clinic. Hankir will be in conversation with contributor Hannah Allam, national security reporter covering extremism for NPR.
