Willy Conley - Listening Through the Bone: Collected Poems — at Politics and Prose at Union Market

Upcoming Event
Tuesday, March 12, 2019 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

Originating in song, poetry is often considered an art of and from the ear. For Conley, as for other Deaf poets, however, poetry is written from the eye. Striving to be “imagistic, clear, and precise,” Conley, a professor of theatre and dance at Gallaudet University, explores both his own experience and the larger life cycles of nature, focusing on the nuances of human interaction as well as the cadences of nature’s rhythms. Complementing his words with photos—including “watergraphs” that capture the inverted reflections in pools—his work is as richly tactile as it is sharply observed.

ASL-English interpretation will be provided.
