Victoria Riskin - Fay Wray and Robert Riskin: A Hollywood Memoir — at Politics and Prose at Union Market

Upcoming Event
Friday, March 29, 2019 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

In her dual biography of her parents, Riskin, a TV producer and former president of the Writers Guild of America West, gives a vivid glimpse of Golden Age Hollywood. Her mother, Fay Wray (1907-2004), played the iconic “scream queen,” Ann Darrow, in the original 1933 King Kong and her father, Robert Riskin (1897-1955), won an Oscar in 1935 for writing the screenplay for Frank Capra’s It Happened One Night. Both were part of dozens of films and had independently risen from rags to riches by the time they became a couple in 1940. Describing plots that could have come from the pair’s films, Riskin recounts Wray’s first, stormy marriage to the brilliant but hard-drinking screenwriter John Monk Saunders, and looks back on her father’s long bachelorhood, when he dated stars like Carole Lombard while developing the classic screwball comedy.

This event is part of P&P's Film Series at Union Market, along with David Thomson with Sleeping with Strangers, Mallory O'Meara with The Lady from the Black Lagoon, and Josh Frank with Giraffes on Horseback Salad.

P&P is proud to partner with Angelika Pop-up to offer attendees the chance to win a night at the movies. At each Film Series event, you can enter a raffle for five movie passes to the Angelika with two large popcorns.
