Tishani Doshi - Girls Are Coming Out of the Woods — in conversation with Tania James

Upcoming Event
Saturday, May 19, 2018 - 3:30pm to 4:30pm

Doshi is an award-winning writer and dancer of Welsh-Gujarati descent. She has published four books of poetry and fiction including Countries of the Body, which won the Forward Poetry Prize for best first collection. Her latest book of poems uses propulsive rhythms and repetition for a passionate evocation of women’s experience of bias and misogynistic violence. Powerful, lyrical, and defiant, Doshi’s title poem declares that it’s time to stop being silent, promising that “Girls are coming/ out of the woods, clearing the ground/ to scatter their stories. Even those girls/ found naked in ditches and wells,/those forgotten in neglected attics,/ and buried in river beds like sediments.” Doshi will be in conversation with Tania James, author most recently of The Tusk that Did the Damage.
