Stephanie Dray and Laura Kamoie - My Dear Hamilton: A Novel of Eliza Schuyler Hamilton — at Politics and Prose at The Wharf

Upcoming Event
Thursday, April 19, 2018 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

In America’s First Daughter, Dray and Kamoie gave us a glimpse of early America through the eyes of Thomas Jefferson’s oldest daughter. Their new novel spotlights another woman who was at the center of Revolutionary events, following Eliza Schuyler Hamilton (1757-1854), daughter of a wealthy Revolutionary general, from her upbringing in Albany through her marriage to the penniless and illegitimate Alexander Hamilton in 1780 and on to her life as Hamilton’s widow. A passionate revolutionary in her own right, Eliza did not let her marriage define her. Drawing on an extensive archive of correspondence and original sources, the authors dramatize her role as a founding mother, highlight her courage in facing her husband’s scandals, and show her determination to preserve Hamilton’s legacy, even as she struggled with its dark secrets.
