Stephanie Burt - Advice from the Lights: Poems — in conversation with Sandra Beasley

Upcoming Event
Sunday, December 3, 2017 - 1:00pm to 2:00pm

Burt’s fourth collection of poems is a kaleidoscopic look at identity, art, and memory. Writing as both Stephen and Stephanie, Burt dramatizes questions of gender and meditates on how her male and female selves, with their different memories, goals, and desires, cohere into one consciousness. Built of ambitious sequences, the book also profiles different years, each with its own songs and themes, and channels the Greek poet Callimachus. Author of books including Belmont, The Art of the Sonnet, and most recently, The Poem Is You, Burt has been hailed as one of today’s leading poetry critics. She is a poetry editor at The Nation and professor of English at Harvard.

Burt will be in conversation with Sandra Beasley, whose most recent collection of poems is Count the Waves.
