Soraya Chemaly - Rage Becomes Her: The Power of Women's Anger — in conversation with Jill Filipovic

Upcoming Event
Sunday, September 16, 2018 - 5:00pm to 6:00pm

In women’s ongoing struggle for equal rights, one right that’s gotten little attention is women’s right to be angry. In this eye-opening examination of the taboo of women’s rage, Chemaly, a writer, speaker, and director of the Women’s Media Center Speech Project, shows how cultural norms that prohibit women from expressing anger—or that demean it as “hysteria”--harm both women and society: women become depressed and the misogynistic society doesn’t change. Rather than repressing a powerful tool for social and personal transformation, Chemaly urges women to embrace and voice their anger. There’s too much at stake not to.

Chemaly will be in conversation with Jill Filipovic, a journalist based in Nairobi and New York City, and author of The H-Spot.
