Sjón - Moonstone: The Boy Who Never Was: A Novel

Upcoming Event
Wednesday, September 28, 2016 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

In haunting miniatures including The Blue Fox and The Whispering Muse, Sjón, the Icelandic writer, poet, and lyricist, has given folkloric whimsy a sharp modernist edge. His latest narrative draws on the magic of early noir films, tracing the life of Máni Steinn Karlsson who, as a gay man in Reykjavik in 1918, is an outsider in a place that is itself largely outside the main stream of events. While he dreams up a world for himself inside darkened theaters, war and the Spanish flu epidemic are changing the landscape outside. Only when Máni joins forces with the mesmerizing Sóla G, a double for Irma Vep, can he begin to navigate the future.
