Sheila Heti - Motherhood — at Politics and Prose at The Wharf

Upcoming Event
Wednesday, May 2, 2018 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

One of today’s most exciting and unconventional writers, Heti is the author of seven books, including the acclaimed “novel from life,” How Should a Person Be? Her new work is a fictional exploration of motherhood, which Heti treats as the complex existential question it is. Her narrative follows a young woman in her thirties who is surrounded by friends having children. But for her, children are neither a given nor even a “someday”; she is genuinely undecided. As she considers the question from every possible angle, Heti’s protagonist reflects on the potential gains and losses of motherhood, assesses how children would change her other relationships, and struggles to make a wise and moral decision.
