Russell Banks - Voyager: Travel Writings

Tuesday, June 7, 2016 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

Best known for novels including Continental Drift and The Sweet Hereafter, Banks has also written several collections of short stories, most recently A Permanent Member of the Family, two books of poetry, and two collections of essays. His third work of nonfiction gathers his travel writings. As befits a past president of the International Parliament of Writers, Banks is an avid and experienced traveler. His wanderlust has taken him from the Continental United States and Alaska to the Himalayas, Scotland—where he eloped—and Cuba, where he interviewed Castro. Banks has returned to and written about his  favorite places many times over the years, which imbues his profiles with a deep sense of personal meaning that transcends the usual scenic travelogue.
