Greene, now with the Associated Press, has devoted his career to exposing social ills. His first book, Night Fire, chronicled a citizens’ struggle against industrial pollution. While with The Miami Herald, he exposed exploitation of Florida farm laborers. Project editor for the Pulitzer-winning Breathless and Burdened, Greene in his second book reconstructs the police shooting of six unarmed, black residents of New Orleans on the Danziger Bridge six days after Hurricane Katrina. Documenting the incident, the cover-up, and the fight for justice, Greene’s narrative tells the larger story of the disaster in microcosm.
