@ Busboys and Poets Takoma: Robin Givhan - The Battle of Versailles: The Night American Fashion Stumbled Into the Spotlight and Made History

Tuesday, April 7, 2015 - 6:30pm to 7:30pm

The Washington Post’s Pulitzer Prize-winning fashion critic, Givhan in her first book recreates a November, 1973 fashion show organized as a fund-raiser for Versailles Palace. Five American designers were invited to participate, and their combination of fresh style, irreverence, and black models changed the rules of the game. Givhan expertly evokes the work of Bill Blass, Stephen Burrows, Oscar de la Renta, Halston, and Anne Klein, while showing how they drew on socio-cultural currents to crystallize the look of the moment.
