Robert Blaemire - Birch Bayh: Making a Difference

Upcoming Event
Sunday, June 2, 2019 - 1:00pm to 2:00pm

One of the preeminent congressmen of the twentieth century, Bayh served as U.S. Senator from 1963 to 1981. During that remarkable tenure, Bayh authored the Equal Rights Amendment, Title IX, and the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Act and co-authored the Patent and Trademark Law Amendments Act, aka the Bayh-Dole Act. He also became the only non-Founding Father to write two Constitutional amendments: the 25th, on presidential succession, and the 26th, which lowered the legal voting age to eighteen. Blaemire, a member of Bayh’s staff for thirteen years, gives a close and fascinating look at a remarkable statesman and his enduring legacy as well as evoking an era when national government was a place of bipartisanship and compromise.
