Join two beloved authors as they discuss their empathetic, uproarious new graphic novels. Varian Johnson tackles sibling rivalry and middle school angst in Twins, which follows formerly inseparable twin sisters as they run against each other for sixth grade class president. In the latest installment of Aron Nels Steinke’s Mr. Wolf’s Class series, an irrepressible group of animal friends works through conflicts and insecurities on a camping trip in the great woods.
Varian Johnson is the critically acclaimed author of nine novels, including The Parker Inheritance, The Great Greene Heist, and To Catch a Cheat. An identical twin himself, he has a lot in common with his newest main characters. His daughters’ love for graphic novels—and their struggle to find ones with Black protagonists—inspired him to write Twins.
Aron Nels Steinke is a cartoonist and elementary school teacher. His award-winning books include The Zoo Box—created with his wife, Ariel Cohn—and the previous three Mr. Wolf’s Class graphic novels. He grew up on 11 acres of forest in rural Washington State. Like many people of all ages, he is a slow reader because he gets distracted easily.
