When Danler failed to feel the joy she’d expected with the runaway success of her debut novel, Sweetbitter—the story of a Midwestern woman’s coming-of-age in the upscale Manhattan restaurant industry—she knew she had to face the reality of her family’s continuing impact on her life. Recounting her return to California after ten years away, her powerful memoir delves into her experience as the daughter of a mother suffering from depression and alcoholism and a father whose addiction to crystal meth ruined his business career. Writing with courage and honesty, Danler also chronicles her own struggles with drinking, infidelity, and bad judgments—but also shares what she’s learned about resilience and forgiveness.

Danler will be in conversation with Jamie Lee Curtis, an actor, activist, and author of 13 books for young readers. Her most recent title is Me, Myselfie & I: A Cautionary Tale.
