P&P Live! Saadia Faruqi & Laura Shovan-A Place at the Table

Upcoming Event
Wednesday, September 2, 2020 - 7:00pm

When Sara and Elizabeth meet at an after-school South Asian cooking class, they think they’re too lost in their own problems to make new friends. Sara, whose mom teaches the class, misses the sense of community at her old small, Islamic school. Elizabeth isn’t sure how to talk about her British mother’s depression or her best friend’s shifting priorities. Everything changes when they realize their mothers both need help preparing for the U.S. citizenship test. As the girls form a two-mom study group, their connection strengthens. They even decide to enter a cooking competition together. But their new friendship is constantly tested from outside and within—raising questions about bravery, family, and what it means to work for a kinder world. Ages 9-12
