From the award-winning reporter for Bloomberg, a suspenseful behind-the-scenes look at the dysfunction and mismanagement that contributed to one of the worst tragedies in modern aviation: the 2018 and 2019 crashes of the Boeing 737 MAX.

Peter Robison is an investigative journalist for Bloomberg and Bloomberg Businessweek. He is a recipient of the Gerald Loeb Award, the Malcolm Forbes Award, and four “Best in Business” awards from the Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing. A native of St. Paul, Minnesota, with an honors degree in history from Stanford University, he lives in Seattle, Washington, with his wife and two sons.

Moe Tkacik is a journalist and off-again waitress of 23 years and senior fellow at the American Economic Liberties Project.  She was a Wall Street Journal reporter during the September 11 terror attacks and a founding editor of Jezebel, but for most of her career has been a freelance writer editors tend to call when they want 10,000 words that blend economic analysis with cultural criticism and they don't mind if it's a few weeks late. (An extremely lucrative genre.) She had just quit her last waitressing gig when an old friend of hers who was editing the New Republic took her to lunch to see if she would be interested in writing the story of the 737 Max. What she found was the story of what happens when you apply the kind of flagrant Ponzification of business that caused the 2008 financial crisis to a product so complex that even the bottom barrel version of it has more than a million parts.
