“What responsibilities does the press have to investigate and present the news fairly? How has new technology had an impact on the press and on the way we receive information? Is democracy harmed when an entire set of opinions is dismissed without considering its value, or when factual news reporting is labelled false without proof?" These are just some of the questions addressed by a celebrated author as she explores how the First Amendment right to a free press has been essential to a functioning democracy throughout American history.
