P&P Live! Leah Henderson and Tyler Feder-Together We March: 25 Protest Movements That Marched Into History—with Karen MacPherson

Upcoming Event
Tuesday, February 9, 2021 - 6:00pm

In the immortal words of the late Congressman and civil rights activist John Lewis, there are times when it is necessary to “make some noise and get in good trouble”. Taking to the streets with signs and lifted voices to march against the ills that plague society is not just an American tradition, it is a tool for civil rights movements worldwide. In Together We March, Leah Henderson has collected 25 of the most impactful marches of their times from the March of the Mill Children in 1903 up to the Black Lives Matter protests of 2020. Some of the marches are well known, while others you will learn about for the first time. Lively illustrations of faces, places, and symbols of the marches are brought to life by artist Tyler Feder.

Leah Henderson is the author of the middle grade novels The Magic in Changing Your Stars and One Shadow on the Wall, a Children’s Africana Book Award notable and a Bank Street Best Book. Her work appears in the YA anthology Black Enough: Stories of Being Young & Black in America and her picture books include Mamie on the Mound, and A Day for Rememberin’. Leah holds a Master’s in Writing and is on faculty in the Spalding University MFA program. She loves travel, soccer, and lives in Washington, D.C. with her dog, Boston.

Tyler Feder is a full-time illustrator based in Chicago. She graduated from Northwestern University with a BA in Radio/TV/Film and a certificate in Creative Writing for the Media. She further honed her comedic skills at the Second City Training Center, where she graduated from the writing program. Tyler’s illustration company, Roaring Softly, is a mix of witty pop culture art and intersectional feminist pieces. Her freelance clients include Netflix, Comedy Central, and ESPN, and she is the illustrator of Unladylike and Sydney Taylor Book award winner, Pity Party.
