Sabriya’s carefully laid out summer plans are ruined when a terrorist attack near her home in Washington D.C. rocks the entire country. The terrorist is assumed to be Muslim and Islamophobia grows, inspiring Bri to write a private online blog, You Truly Assumed, as an outlet. But what was never meant for the public to see goes viral as fellow Muslim teens around the country flock to it and find solace and a sense of community.

Two more teens from across the country, Zakat and Farah, join Bri to run You Truly Assumed, but as the blog’s popularity grows, so do the pushback and hateful comments. When one of them is threatened, their newfound friendship and community are put to the test as they must decide whether to shut down the blog and lose what they’ve worked for or take a stand and risk everything to make their voices heard.

Laila Sabreen is a young adult author. Raised in the Washington, DC area, she currently attends Emory University and majors in English and Sociology. You Truly Assumed is her debut novel.

Karuna Riazi is the middle grade author of The Gauntlet, its companion The Battle, and the forthcoming A Bit of Earth. She holds a BA in English Literature from Hofstra University, and is an online diversity advocate, blogger, and educator.
