P&P Live! Hurston/Wright Legacy Award Reading: Nonfiction

Upcoming Event
Saturday, October 10, 2020 - 1:00pm

This event will be streamed online as part of our P&P Live! Series.

The second of three events celebrating Hurston/Wright Legacy Award nominations, with this particular program representing the nonfiction category and moderated by Ralph Eubanks.

The Hurston/Wright Legacy Award honors the best in Black literature in the United States and around the globe. Introduced in 2001, the Legacy Award was the first national award presented to Black writers by a national organization of Black writers. Fiction, nonfiction, and poetry honorees are selected in a juried competition. Join us to celebrate the 2020 nominees for nonfiction!

Nominees appearing for this virtual event include:

Clyde Ford, Think Black: A Memoir (Amistad)

Saidiya Hartman, Wayward Lives, Beautiful Experiments: Intimate Histories of Riotous Black Girls, Troublesome Women, and Queer Radicals (W. W. Norton & Company)

Dani McClain, We Live for the We: The Political Power of Black Motherhood (Bold Type Books)

Albert Woodfox, Solitary: My Story of Transformation and Hope (Grove Press)

Damon Young, What Doesn’t Kill You Makes You Blacker: A Memoir in Essays (Ecco)

All donations for this event will go towards the Hurston/Wright Foundation.

You can also support Politics and Prose Bookstore, the authors, and our virtual event series by purchasing a book from our website.

We are so grateful to be surrounded by such a loyal and engaged community and we thank you for your support, now and always.
