Maria is a lonely girl with a secret to keep. She is the daughter of a psychic con artist who swindles widows out of their fortunes, but it’s not her mother that has the gift of clairvoyance—it is Maria. A longing for connection with the living leads Maria on a spirit-led treasure hunt across 1950s Brooklyn where she learns about Beat poets, Abstract Impressionists, jazz singers, and, ultimately, friendship.
This is the debut middle grade novel for award winning author-illustrator Gilbert Ford. He will be in conversation with Mary Quattlebaum, children's author and Washington Post/Kids Post reviewer. The event includes a short clip of Gilbert’s process and a live drawing demonstration as well as Q&A from the audience. Ages 8-12.
