Philip K. Howard - Try Common Sense: Replacing the Failed Ideologies of Right and Left — in conversation with Stuart Taylor

Upcoming Event
Wednesday, January 30, 2019 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

A writer, lawyer, and founder of Common Good, Howard is a leading critic of over-regulation and excessive litigation. As he argued in The Rule of Nobody, good government doesn’t depend on laws and bureaucratic hierarchies, but simply on asking what is the right thing to do. His new book is based on the similarly clear and straightforward premise that the nation has fallen away from the founders’ vision. Where they saw government’s role as enhancing freedom of choice and protecting citizens with the rule of law, today’s government is too mired in its own operations to act sensibly or provide needed services. To establish the truly practical society the founders intended requires that we stop relying on rules and instead take responsibility by making meaningful choices.

Howard will be in conversation with Stuart Taylor, former New York Times reporter and co-author of three previous books.
