Olivia Laing - Crudo — in conversation with Tayla Burney — at Politics and Prose at Union Market

Upcoming Event
Wednesday, September 19, 2018 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

After three powerful, innovative works of nonfiction, most recently, The Lonely City, Laing makes her fiction debut with a novel as fiercely original as its protagonist and muse. Borrowing both Kathy Acker (1947-1997)—the irreverent, inimitable postmodern/punk writer—and Acker’s art of appropriation, Laing studs her narrative with quotes from Acker’s works and Trump’s tweets, following her fictional Kathy from Tuscany to Britain during the anxious summer of 2017. While declaring that “I grew up wild, I want to stay wild,” Kathy nevertheless mulls over marriage and tries to fathom her own emotions, even as the increasingly incomprehensible world seems headed for its end.

Laing will be in conversation with producer and writer Tayla Burney.
