Noah Isenberg - We'll Always Have Casablanca: The Life, Legend, and Afterlife of Hollywood's Most Beloved Movie

Upcoming Event
Friday, March 17, 2017 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

To mark the 75th anniversary of the timeless film Casablanca, Isenberg, Film Quarterly book review editor and director of screen studies at the New School’s Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts, delves into the making of this triple Academy Award-winner and charts its long and rich cultural legacy. While recognized as a masterpiece from the first, the film grew from an unproduced stage play. Its makers faced criticism for controversial casting and struggled with Production Code censors. Through interviews with members of the cast and crew, Isenberg vividly recreates key behind-the-scenes moments, while his talks with fans and critics put the work in the larger contexts of history and cinematography.

Isenberg will be in conversation with Glenn Frankel, author of High Noon and The Searchers. There will be a screening of Casablanca at 6 p.m. Beer and wine sales will be available at the event from 6 to 7 p.m.
