Najmieh Batmanglij - Cooking in Iran: Regional Recipes and Kitchen Secrets — at Politics and Prose at Union Market

Upcoming Event
Thursday, February 28, 2019 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

The author of the classic Persian cookbook Food of Life, Batmanglij grew up in Iran and was proclaimed “the goddess of Iranian cooking" by no less an authority than Yotam Ottolenghi. Her new book, the result of three years of traveling through her homeland, is a spell-binding and mouth-watering guide to the flavors and culture of Persian cuisine. Batmanglij visited every region, gathering some 250 recipes along with photos—of vendors, farmers, ancient ruins—as well as stories—of family dinners and local culinary traditions. She treats us to a wide variety of kebabs, the traditional porridge-like soup known as osh, and other outstanding dishes ranging from Azerbaijani dumpling soup to walnut and sumac meatballs to saffroned almond and pistachio baklava.
