Monika Zgustová - Dressed for a Dance in the Snow: Women's Voices from the Gulag

Upcoming Event
Saturday, March 14, 2020 - 1:00pm to 2:00pm

Born in Prague, educated in the U.S., and now living in Spain, Zgustova is the award-winning author of novels—The Silent Woman and Goya’s Glass are available in English—short stories, a play, and a biography, as well as the translator of more than fifty books from Russian and Czech into Spanish and Catalan. Her new book recounts the history of Stalin’s labor camps through the lives of nine women once imprisoned there. Tracking these survivors to their homes in Moscow, Paris, and London, Zgustova largely preserves their voices, letting them tell their own long-neglected stories of courage, endurance, and the strength that helped them form new lives as scientists, actresses, teachers, and mathematicians after their time in the Gulag.
