Mimi Lemay - What We Will Become: A Mother, a Son, and a Journey of Transformation — at Politics and Prose at Union Market, in partnership with the Human Rights Campaign Foundation

Upcoming Event
Wednesday, November 13, 2019 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

When Lemay’s two-and-a-half-year-old told his parents he was a boy, there were few support systems or guidelines for helping transgender children or their families. But Lemay, who had struggled with her beliefs and made the painful decision to reject the ultra-Orthodox Jewish household she was raised in—along with its strict gender roles—understood how a life can be recreated. As she joined her son on his journey, she herself became an outspoken advocate for transgender rights and a member of Human Rights Campaign's Parents for Transgender Equality Council. Her memoir, based on the 2015 letter to her son that was featured on an NBC News segment, is a deeply affecting story and a powerful affirmation. This event is in partnership with the Human Rights Campaign Foundation.
