Michael Koncewicz - They Said No to Nixon: Republicans Who Stood Up to the President's Abuses of Power

Upcoming Event
Saturday, November 10, 2018 - 3:30pm to 4:30pm

Amid the secret tapes, the enemies list, and the manipulations of power, one iconic event in Nixon’s presidency is the Saturday Night Massacre, when Elliot Richardson, Nixon’s Attorney General, refused to dismiss special prosecutor Archibald Cox. Richardson wasn’t the only member of Nixon’s circle to resist him, nor did such resistance come only late in Nixon’s tenure. Drawing on previously unpublished excerpts from tapes, newly released materials, and his own experience working for the National Archives at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum, Koncewicz documents Nixon’s repeated efforts to abuse power and names the unsung heroes in the IRS, Treasury, and OMB who risked their careers to thwart him.
