Meryl Gordon - Bunny Mellon: The Life of an American Style Legend

Upcoming Event
Sunday, October 22, 2017 - 3:00pm to 4:00pm

A socialite with a passion for gardening, Bunny Mellon (1910-2014) was a fixture on the Best-Dressed List as well as in social circles that included presidents, movie stars, and royalty. Heiress to the Listerine fortune and second wife of philanthropist Paul Mellon, Bunny may be best known now for having redesigned the White House Rose Garden at JFK’s request. She also designed landscapes for several Mellon properties and assembled one of the largest collections of rare horticultural books in the country. Always a lavish spender, Mellon used her private plane to send flowers to friends from her Virginia farm, and in 2008 she donated millions to John Edwards’s presidential campaign. In this sparkling biography, Gordon, author of Mrs. Astor Regrets and The Phantom of Fifth Avenue, draws on private letters and photos as well as interviews with Mellon and her close friends.
