Max Hirshfeld - Sweet Noise: Love in Wartime — at Politics and Prose at Union Market

Upcoming Event
Saturday, November 2, 2019 - 6:00pm to 7:00pm

A Washington-based photographer whose work has been featured in national magazines including GQ, People, Time, and Vanity Fair, as well as in corporate ad campaigns, Hirshfeld grew up in Alabama, the son of Polish Jews who survived Auschwitz. In his moving and powerful book, he uses photographs—including many taken on his mother’s return trip to Poland in 1993—and his parents’ post-war letters to retrace their remarkable story, recounting how they met by chance in a Nazi-created ghetto in 1943, fell in love, lived through the Holocaust, and started a new life together in the American South.
