In his fifth thriller, Quirk applies what he learned as a journalist for The Atlantic covering crime, private military contractors, terrorism prosecutions, and international gangs to a classic Washington spy story. The action starts with a murder and a cryptic reference to OSPREY. Trying to find the killers, FBI agent Peter Sutherland is drawn into an elaborate conspiracy directed by a Russian operative in the White House. As he races against time to expose the mole, Sutherland faces increasing danger from both foreign enemies and his own agency, finding himself unwittingly reliving the experience of his father, whose FBI career was ruined by accusations that he sold secrets to the Soviets. Quirk, whose previous novels include The 500 and Dead Man Switch, will be in conversation with Mathew Yglesias, editor, writer, and co-founder of the news website Vox.
