Mary Beth Keane - Ask Again, Yes

Upcoming Event
Sunday, July 21, 2019 - 5:00pm to 6:00pm

Keane’s new novel is a rich multigenerational saga of two families. Unfolding over forty years in the New York City suburbs, the book opens in 1973 with rookie cops Brian Stanhope and Francis Gleeson bonding over the challenges of their job; later, they both move to a nearby town, start families, and the focus shifts to Brian’s son and Francis’s daughter, who fall in love. Meanwhile, each family struggles with its own, unspoken, tensions, which eventually drive the young lovers apart. Keane, who was named one of the National Book Foundation’s “5 under 35,” tells the story from multiple perspectives, conveying the myriad textures of family life and illuminating changing attitudes toward mental health and addiction.
