Marvin Kalb - Imperial Gamble: Putin, Ukraine, and the New Cold War

Sunday, September 27, 2015 - 1:00pm to 2:00pm

In his tenth book, Kalb, an award-winning journalist, founding director of Harvard’s Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics and Foreign Policy, and currently a guest scholar in foreign policy at Brookings and James Clark Welling fellow at George Washington, carefully examines Putin’s recent actions in Ukraine. Arguing that Russia’s 2014 invasion of Crimea is directly related to Putin’s fear that the 2013 Maidan Square demonstrations signaled an anti-Russian/pro-West sentiment, Kalb examines Putin’s recent actions, and Russians’ tolerance of them, in light of the longer history of Russian nationalism.
