Marita Golden - Us Against Alzheimer's: Stories of Family, Love, and Faith — in conversation with Sonsyrea Tate, Heather Davis, Cathy Alter, Joe Oppenheimer, and Julie Langsdorf

Upcoming Event
Friday, October 4, 2019 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

Golden got involved in raising awareness of Alzheimer’s after extensive research for a novel led her to write a groundbreaking story for the Washington Post Sunday Magazine on the high incidence of the disease in the African American community. Now working with USAgainst Alzheimer's, Golden has selected forty narratives by diverse writers that powerfully reflect how this illness affects patients as well as their families and caregivers. In both fiction and nonfiction, contributors including Sonsyrea Tate, Heather Davis, Cathy Alter, and Joe Oppenheimer recount their experiences of an illness that kills twice—first taking a person’s mind, then the body—but which can also summon a transformative strength and grace in those who witness it.
