Marcus Wicker - Silencer

Upcoming Event
Sunday, September 17, 2017 - 5:00pm to 6:00pm

Wicker’s charged first collection, Maybe the Saddest Thing, was a National Poetry Series winner, praised for its “lyrical wizardry.” In his second book, Wicker, a 2011 Ruth Lilly fellow and poetry editor of The Southern Indiana Review, relentlessly examines today’s polarized and violent America through richly syncopated verse. Wicker’s rap-infused rhythms draw on popular culture and its discontents, confronting the American Dream with the daily reality of guns and police brutality. As he questions his faith in both spiritual and political ideals, Wicker shows that old assumptions are worn out and that we need a new vision.
