Maile Meloy - Do Not Become Alarmed

Upcoming Event
Saturday, June 10, 2017 - 3:30pm to 4:30pm

Meloy’s sixth novel starts with a dream vacation and moves quickly into nightmare territory. One minute Liv and Nora are enjoying a Central American cruise with their families and new friends, the next they’re desperately searching for their children, who disappeared on a shore excursion. Meloy, the award-winning author of fiction for adults and young adults, tells the story from the points of view of the parents and children, as well as drug runners, their housekeeper, and a ten-year-old making her way north. Vividly evoking geographical and emotional landscapes, Meloy, one of Granta’s 2007 Best Young American Novelists and the author of Liars and Saints, tells a story that’s at once a taut psychological thriller and a penetrating exploration of the limits of safety and privilege. Meloy will be in conversation with Katy Waldman, Slate staff writer.
