Lyz Lenz - God Land: A Story of Faith, Loss, and Renewal in Middle America

Upcoming Event
Friday, August 2, 2019 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

Deeply shaken by the 2016 election, Lenz—a contributor to the Columbia Journalism Review, The Washington Post, the Roxane Gay-edited collection Not That Bad, and more—set out to discover the effect of the heightened divisiveness on the religious practices of the nation’s heartland. Her book combines her own experience as a Christian and native Midwesterner with the stories of others throughout the region to give an illuminating portrait of the changing role of faith in alienated communities. Visiting megachurches as well as small community gathering spaces, Lenz explores both why some people decide to leave religion and why others stay with it.
