L.M. Elliott - Suspect Red — in the Children & Teens Dept.

Upcoming Event
Monday, September 25, 2017 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

Soon after World War II, blacklists, suspicion, and xenophobia are part of daily life in America. In this troubling climate, readers meet 13-year old Richard. As a traditional American and the son of an FBI employee in Northwest Washington, D.C., Richard has never questioned his family’s values. That is, until he meets Vlad, his Czechoslovakian neighbor. Will Vlad change Richard’s ideas about authority and loyalty? Fictional characters combine with real-life headlines, events, and people resulting in a fresh understanding of this period in American history. Ages 10-14.

L.M. Elliott will be joined by Ken Yalowitz, the former ambassador to the Republic of Belarus and Georgia, who will provide memories of his 36 years with the U.S. Foreign Service and what it was like to grow up during McCarthyism.
