Lisa Howorth - Summerlings

Upcoming Event
Sunday, August 11, 2019 - 3:00pm to 4:00pm

In her second novel, Howorth, author of Flying Shoes and co-founder, with her husband, of Oxford, Mississippi’s Square Books, returns to Washington D.C., the city where she was born and grew up. Set in the summer of 1959, the story traces the lingering shadows of the Second World War and the rise of Cold War tensions through the lives of several families on Connors Lane. While the kids are hatching a plot to steal specimens of a rare spider that has invaded the area—possibly Soviet “insect warfare”—the adults try to forge solidarity with a block party that ends up in a drunken fiasco, with secrets spilled and lives irrevocably changed.
