Linda Hirshman - Reckoning: The Epic Battle Against Sexual Abuse and Harassment

Upcoming Event
Friday, June 14, 2019 - 7:00pm to 8:00pm

The first history of the long fight against sexual harassment, Hirshman’s book is a detailed look at the incidents, the cases, and above all the women who paved the way for the #MeToo era. The author of the Sandra Day O’Connor and Ruth Bader Ginsburg double-portrait Sisters in Law and the account of the gay rights revolution Victory, Hirshman writes as both social historian and a lawyer, investigating in detail landmark events such as the workplace harassment stories that surfaced in the 1970s and the tensions laid bare during the Clinton/Lewinsky scandal. Arguing that liberalism’s blind spots delayed feminism until Weinstein’s accusers spoke out, Hirshman spotlights the unsung heroism of women of color over the last fifty years and points out the crucial role women in the new media are playing today.
